A phono cartridge traces movements measured in thousandths of a millimeter. Recovering everything pressed into a record groove demands extraordinary precision. Not just from the cartridge itself, but from the tonearm guiding it. Korf’s fixed-headshell tonearms approach that job as a complete structure, combining the arm tube, ceramic headshell, bearing system, and adjustments into an integrated design intended to give the cartridge a stable, predictable platform.

The three models share that underlying architecture while using different arm-tube materials. The TA-SF9 uses stainless steel, the TA-AF9/10 alumina ceramic, and the TA-CF9/10 monocrystalline sapphire. Each material brings different mechanical properties to the same fundamental design, giving each arm its own expression of Korf’s engineering priorities.

All three use Korf’s zero-friction, zero-stiction flexure horizontal bearing and a fixed alumina ceramic headshell. Magnetic anti-skating, precise VTA and azimuth adjustment, and a screw-adjusted counterweight make setup repeatable and help the arm remain correctly adjusted over time.

Korf TA-SF9

Stainless steel · 9 inch

The TA-SF9 is the steel implementation of Korf’s fixed-headshell architecture. Its stainless-steel arm tube is paired with the same rigid ceramic headshell concept and flexure-bearing approach that define the range.

With a 19-gram effective mass, it is also the lightest of the three designs. The SF9 brings Korf’s core engineering priorities together in the simplest expression of the fixed-headshell design.

Korf TA-AF9/10

Alumina ceramic · 9 or 10 inch

The TA-AF replaces the steel arm tube with alumina ceramic, extending the use of ceramic from the headshell through the arm tube itself. The result is an exceptionally rigid structure designed to minimize flex while controlling the way mechanical energy travels through the arm.

This is the Korf we know firsthand at Backbeat Audio. Installed on our Dr. Feickert Blackbird with a Benz Micro Ruby Z, the AF retained the cartridge’s warmth, natural tonal color, excellent tracking, and remarkably quiet behavior in the groove while revealing greater agility, dynamic contrast, and low-level detail. The Ruby Z didn’t become a different cartridge. It simply showed us more of what it could do.

Korf TA-CF9/10

The TA-CF takes the same architecture in another direction with an arm tube made from monocrystalline sapphire. Its exceptional rigidity allows Korf to further reduce the contribution of the arm tube itself, placing greater emphasis on transmitting what is happening at the stylus without adding mechanical character of its own.

At 28 grams effective mass, the CF is also mechanically distinct from the SF and AF. It is intended for analog front ends capable of resolving the very small differences its sapphire construction is designed to preserve.

Choosing a Korf Tonearm

Across the SF, AF, and CF, different materials change the mechanical behavior of the structure while the architecture and Korf’s underlying priorities remain consistent. That makes choosing among them a question of the turntable they will become part of, the performance of the rest of the analog front end, and what the listener wants that combination to accomplish.
