Maco Macarias
Demonstration Pair | Baltic Birch | $7,495
Open-baffle sound. A distinctive design. One last pair.
The Maco Macarias take a refreshingly different approach to loudspeaker design. Their open-baffle architecture pairs a 15-inch wideband driver with a dedicated 15-inch woofer, combining the immediacy and coherence of a wideband design with the scale and authority of a large loudspeaker.
Without a conventional enclosure surrounding the drivers, the Macarias allow sound to radiate both forward and backward, creating a spacious, open presentation that brings music into the room with remarkable presence. With 93 dB sensitivity, they’re also well suited to a wide range of amplification, including many lower-powered tube designs.
This demonstration pair is finished in Baltic birch, a material Maco has since discontinued for the Macarias. The exposed plywood construction gives the speakers a distinctive appearance that complements their unconventional engineering.
These are the speakers we’ve used for demonstrations at the Backbeat listening studio. They’re in excellent condition and represent an opportunity to acquire a particularly distinctive version of the Macarias at a substantial savings over their original price.
